Criminals adopt many methods to earn money fraudulently. A couple took the help of a fake lottery ticket for this, but they made a minor mistake due to which they were caught by the police. In this case, a couple from Florida in America allegedly tried to defraud lottery officials of 1 million dollars i.e. 8 crore 33 lakh rupees by joining two torn scratch-off tickets together.
According to a police report cited by the Pensacola News Journal, Kira Anders and her partner Dakota Jones tore up two tickets, carefully joined the top half of one ticket and the bottom half of the other together, making it a winning ticket. As it seems. The pair claimed that their Frankenstein ticket was the winner, but they soon found out because they forgot to check the serial numbers of two different scratch-offs.
The Escambia County Sheriff said he doesn’t think this will be a made-for-TV movie situation. It was clear that he had taken two tickets, his ticket had a serial number on one side and another serial number on the other side. Especially whenever it is pretended that one million dollars has been won, then this ticket will definitely be scrutinized.
Police say that they had very easily detected that the ticket was fake. (Symbolic photo: Canva)
Anders and Jones reportedly went to meet with a lottery agent several days after submitting a fraudulent ticket to the Florida Lottery in March. After their arrival, instead of releasing the money, the alleged fraudsters were taken into custody and interrogated separately.
Anders reportedly claimed that his ticket had become wet from the rain, so he was forced to put tape over it to prevent it from getting further ruined. According to police, when questioned about the mismatched backside of the two pieces, Anders first expressed surprise, then argued that the ticket was not taped correctly. Anders said she was planning to split the winnings with Jones and open a salon.
